Former Soldier Of The Philippine Army Fulfills Dream Of Joining Miss Q & A

It may seem unusual to see a former soldier competing in a gay beauty pageant on television, but Private Moirah made it possible!

In an episode of It’s Showtime’s Miss Q and A on September 10, 2022, Private Ramon Mangaoang Jr. a.k.a Private Moirah, surprised the audience when he revealed that he was part of the 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

“I’m the first openly-gay trainee sa Philippine army,” he told It’s Showtime hosts Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, and Kim Chiu.

According to the contestant, he served in the military for three years before leaving to pursue civilian life. Even while he was serving in the military, Private Moirah revealed that it had always been his dream to be part of Miss Q & A.

He said, “Sabi ko nung nasa [training] pa po ako, pinapanood ko yung TV, ‘Miss Q and A.’ And habang naka-duty po ako sa kampo, sabi ko, ‘Kailan kaya ako makakasali diyan?’ Sabi ko, ‘Sana bago ako mamatay… makasali ako diyan.’”

Private Moirah triumphed as a daily winner but fell short of defeating the defending queen. But despite it, he feels truly happy that he got to achieve his dream of being on the stage of Miss Q & A.

In a vlog entitled, “The Unusual Story of Private Moirah” via his Youtube channel, he revealed his life story. He grew up in a family of soldiers, so it was expected for him to follow in their footsteps.

“I came from a family of soldiers. Magmula sa lolo ko, hanggang sa mga tito ko, at sa papa ko, sa mga pinsan at kapatid ko, most of them are soldiers talaga,” he admitted.

Private Moirah said he was already “soft” while growing up, but he tried to deny it by courting women. It was in college when he finally accepted his identity and started being comfortable in his own skin.

Private Moirah entered the military when he made the promise to his late older brother that he would continue his commitment to serving the country. The rest, they say, is history.

Private Moirah is loud and proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a defender of the country. And yes, anyone can do both with lots of determination and a passion to serve!
