Social media users recently went down memory lane as the iconic agriculture-simulation social network game FarmVille announces closure 11 years since it was launched on Facebook.
On FarmVille‘s official site, it was earlier disclosed that the popular game is shutting down before the year ends.
“Following an incredible 11 years since its initial launch back in 2009, we are officially announcing the closure of the original FarmVille game on Facebook. As previously stated, Adobe will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers, and Facebook will stop supporting Flash games on the platform completely after December 31st, 2020. FarmVille will therefore be directly affected as a result of this,” the FarmVille statement noted.
Looking back, social media users remembered how fond they were of the game, especially when it first arrived on Facebook in 2009.
“I learned a lot of vegetables, trees, animal species, and various food recipes through Farmville,” Theodora Kasui shared. “It also helped me ease my anxiety.”
“Thank you for the memories, FarmVille,” Irene Pesalbo Bingayan expressed. “I created my Facebook account because of you. You’ve made my life so easy while working far from my family. I have had so much fun playing with this. I even set my alarm clock so I can wake up to water the plants, harvest the crops, and made new plots. I also met friends.”
While Rachel Zoe Santiago recalled, “I’ve had so many great memories and met wonderful friends! I can still remember the time when my farm was chosen as ‘Farm of the Week’ and has been featured on Slate Magazine in 2011.”
