‘To help their families cope’: Employees of Pasig barangay to receive salary in advance amid COVID-crisis

Employees of Barangay San Antonio, Pasig will receive their salary in advance; a move that aims to help their families cope with the effects of the enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19.

In a statement, Chairman Raymond Lising announced that all the 260 employees barangay will receive their payroll early. This, he said, is in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 929 enjoining all government agencies and local governments to render full assistance and cooperation and mobilize necessary resources to undertake critical, urgent, and appropriate response and measures in timely manner to curtail and eliminate the threat of COVID-19.

“We will give the salary intended for March 31 (March 16 to March 31) in advance. We will be preparing also the salaries for April 1 to April 15 so we can give it if needed. We assured full and complete salaries to our barangay employees in spite of the lockdown, especially for those who cannot go to work,” the chairman said, noting that the salaries will be releases this Thursday, March 26.

“Our commitment to give them their full salaries is our way of showing compassion to them and to make sure that they will be able to sustain their daily needs in this time of crisis. We will arrange a systematic distribution of the payroll in the barangay hall, observing social distancing and minimal interaction,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the chairman also disclosed that an additional financial assistance will be given to barangay frontliners.

“The frontliners are members of our Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team, Barangay Health Workers, security force, garbage collectors, street sweepers, VAWC, drivers, and other key positions in the barangay that are helping our operations during this crisis,” he said.  “Hindi ko sila pababayaan dahil alam ko ang sakripisyo nila para sa barangay.”
