A senior official from the Department of Health (DOH) has tested positive for COVID-19, the agency confirmed on Tuesday, March 17.
In a press statement, the health department disclosed that one of its directors in now included in the list of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country.
“The DOH confirms that one of its senior officials tested positive for COVID-19. The lone confirmed case is a director. Contrary to the circulating posts, no member of the DOH Executive Committee is positive for COVID-19,” the DOH said.
Meanwhile, the DOH assured that employees’ safety and health has always been the agency’s priority; noting that offices in their facility have been disinfected to avoid the spread of the virus.
“Offices have been disinfected and close contacts informed so that they can immediately undergo home quarantine and strict monitoring. The Department of Health remains steadfast in its duty to protect every Filipino,” it was noted.
As of posting, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 187; which includes 14 d
eaths and four recoveries.
Earlier, the DOH launched the DOH COVID-19 emergency hotlines 02-894-COVID (02-894-26843) and 1555 in partnership with the National Emergency Hotline of the Department of Interior and Local Government, and PLDT and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc.
Through the hotlines, callers can ask questions if they suspect they are in
fected with COVID-19, or request assistance if they have symptoms and/or known exposure to confirmed cases or pati ents under investigation. The information collected from emergency calls is transmitted to the COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center and other relevant agencies for immediate facilitation and response.
