While the Christmas season is considered in many parts of the world as the happiest period, there are some people who feel a deep sense of loneliness; preventing them to completely relish the festive holiday vibes.
One of these people is Japanese YouTuber Marina Fujiwara, the single woman who created a light bulb device that turns on whenever a couple breaks up online.
In her posts, Fujiwara explained that the light bulb is connected to the internet through a “bridge” and is set to turn on whenever its detects a “we broke up” tweet on Twitter.
“I really hate Christmas. It’s not a light joke like ‘Christmas or perish’, but I really don’t like it,” Fujiwara said. “I want to celebrate Christmas, but when you see a couple in the world going on a Christmas date and doing something like that, I am attacked by a huge sense of loneliness.”
She came up with the idea after discovering that when couples break up, their shared accounts’ icons and descriptions are usually changed to “parted”. With this, she set up an invention that scans posts on Twitter based on the “parted/parting” hashtags.
While Fujiwara’s invention is not commercially available, she noted that single people can easily create their own.
“First of all, connect a ‘bridge’ that will become a hub to connect the light bulb to the Internet. Setup is completed by simply connecting to a WiFi router at home with a LAN cable. Very easy,” the YouTuber disclosed.
