Sen. Pia Cayetano gives bamboo water bottles to fellow senators; draws different reactions from netizens

Senator Pia Cayetano is known to be an advocate of various causes such as children and women’s rights.

As part of #PlasticFreeJuly, however, Cayetano gave away personalized water tumblers made of bamboo and stainless steel to her fellow senators.

According to Cayetano, it is to encourage fellow senators to reduce the use of plastic water bottles especially during Senate sessions and hearings. On her Instagram page, Cayetano said she hopes to lead by example to lessen the usage of plastics.

“I’m back in the Senate and re- introducing a practice I initiated back in 2012- no PET bottles in session halls and hearings. Hope we can lead by example and expand the coverage to lessen our use of plastic.”

Moreover, fellow senator and ally Nancy Binay expressed her gratitude to Cayetano by posting a photo of the bamboo tumbler on her Twitter profile.

“Thank you Senator Pia Cayetano for the bamboo tumbler. Let’s all do our part in reducing the Senate’s plastic waste.”

On the other hand, the post garnered different reactions from netizens.

“Nagdududa yata si Sen. Lacson. Ano kaya iniisip nya?” someone commented on one photo of the senators.

“May nakita akong ganito sa Lazada at Shopee e. Echosera tong si Pia e. Pasalihin ko kaya to sa Miss Earth para 2 na ang Pia na queen.”

“Si Sen. lacson.. inusisa pa mabuti… kung pang alkansya na lang ba niya or lagayan ng tubig ba.”

“First name ng mga Senator ang nakalagay sa bawat Wooden Tumbler. Imagine n’yo si Senator Gordon.”

“Maybe it’s time to practice using lesser plastic. Sa malls, have people bring yung reusable bags sa groceries, paper for wrapping meat and fish.”
