The event made a record-breaking number of 75,000 attendees, which is way more than the 25,000 attendees last year.

This year’s success of the event indicates a strong unity among the LGBTQIA+ community and its supporters in the Philippines.

Aside from individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, the annual event was also supported and joined by Pride groups from different organizations and corporate companies.

Also, Senator Risa Hontiveros graced the event, and promised to pass in the upcoming 18th Congress the SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression) Equality Bill.

Moreover, known celebrities who are part of the Pride community and supporters did not miss the chance to participate in the event.

Among the celebrities were Joey Mead King, Janine Gutierrez and Nadine Lustre.

According to an ABS-CBN story, the event was not only to celebrate expression and identity, but remains as a form of protest to fight inequality, and put an end to discrimination.

Published in the Metro Manila Pride website was this year’s theme: “Standing strong and standing up for who we are is just the beginning. Together, we must act. This year, with the strength of all our colors, different but united in a common goal, we #ResistTogether”.

The Pride March and Festival in Metro Manila was just one of the many Pride parades or events that took place around the world this Saturday.

In New York City, the annual event NYC Pride March was once again held. Also, there was a Pride Parade in Chicago and Mexico City.
