From Fat to Fab: Netizen Shares Her Fitness Journey After Suffering From Body Shaming

Any girl knows a thing or two about being body shamed by a relative, a family member or someone they don’t know. Whether it is being called names such as “taba” or “payatot” or getting called out because of your body shape, our parents, aunts, uncles, and neighbors have contributed to body shaming one way or another. It is not just plus-sized people who are suffering from body-shaming. It affects people of all sizes and shapes, for as long as the person is bullied for their looks or physical differences.

It is normal in Filipino society to comment on other people’s physical appearances, whether it is good or bad. If.a person doesn’t fit within the society’s beauty standards, he or she has to deal with insulting words from other people. This is why there are a lot of weight loss products available in the country. Many women, especially teenagers, are aiming to lose weight.

Achieving Her Goal

A Facebook user named Abigail Viana Jabel shared how she was able to reach her body and fitness goal after suffering from body shaming.

Since she is fond of joining sagalas, people cannot help but comment on her size.

Lakas ng loob oh magsasagala ang taba taba naman.

Abby mag diet kana baka iwan ka ng bf mo.

Although she is not listening to any of these comments, she decided to start losing weight when she saw herself in front of the mirror.

Abby, ang taba taba mo na oh. Laki ng hita mo size 32 bewang mo naman 43 mahiya ka naman sa sarili mo.

Never Easy

Losing weight is never easy for Abby. At first, people were telling her that she can’t make it, but after shedding fats, these people were asking her how she was able to do it. So what is really the secret behind her weight loss?

According to her, she did not go to the gym nor undergo a “no rice” diet since she’s afraid of bounce back. Instead, she strictly followed this:

  • No sweets
  • No soda
  • No red meat
  • No cheat days
  • More veggies
  • More water
  • More motivation and goals
