There are a lot of religions in the Philippines. But even if there are different religions in the country, each of them has their own beliefs and customs being followed by the members.
Filipinos are known for being religious. One of the biggest religions in the Philippines is Roman Catholic. With about 1.21 million Filipinos who are baptized into the Catholic Church, it is no wonder why there are a lot of people who believe in the sanctity of statues found in the churches.
Just recently, people found the statue of Mama Mary smashed, with its pieces lying on the ground. Unknown assailants broke the statue which is placed in a grotto in Solsona, Ilocos Norte.
The said statue was built by Konsehal Bobby Sacro in 2014 after he saw the image of Mama Mary in Solsona-Apayao Road in one of his dreams. Sacro described the suspects as people with no respect.
The Catholic Church is also disappointed after learning about the incident. According to Monsignor Joey Ranjo, the spokesperson of the Diocese of Laoag, not giving respect to anything with the church’s blessing is considered a sin.
The Catholic Church is also asking for respect since every religion in the country have their own beliefs.
Police departments are currently investigating who are the people behind the incident. They are speculating that guests visiting the area decided to play with the statue and broke it accidentally.
