OFW in Kuwait, Now Skin-and-Bones after Agency Allegedly Tells Her to Escape Hospital Because They Can’t Pay

Another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kuwait appealed for help from the government because she’s now skin-and-bones for lack of food and nourishment after her agency allegedly told her to escape the hospital she was confined in because they had no money to pay the bill.

In a post that has gone viral on Facebook, a certain Gmg Bro Aart shared a portion of his interview with Jeanette Opido who shared that the secretary from her recruitment agency, iRekrut Manpower Incorporated, named ‘Milady’ told her to escape the hospital because they could not pay for the bill.

Jeanette was hospitalized for unknown reasons but instead of finding help from her employers and agency, both abandoned her at the time of need. Since she’s no longer working, she also had no money to buy food but can’t also return to the Philippines because her papers were with her former boss.

In an apparent sign of indifference to the plight of abused OFWs under their care, this Milady even allegedly told her to not worry because she can go back to the Philippines even if she’s dead, reports OFW News Beat.

The post went viral, with many Filipinos blasting the agency for abandoning the sick OFW. The post would soon reach the office of OWWA Deputy Executive Director Arnell Ignacio.

A day after the post by Aart went viral, Jeanette was finally rescued and brought to Al Almiri Hospital where she received immediate care for her condition. Her papers were also quickly processed so she can be repatriated soon.

iRekrut was tasked to contact her family.

Thanks to social media, Jeanette will soon be home with her five children. We’re glad she made it alive, despite what she had gone through.
