Meet Lucy Canunayon: Crawling On the Floor to the Hearts of Many People

There are some people who may see disabilities as a limitation. But there are also others who see these disabilities not as a limitation but as an opportunity. They see it as a chance to strive for more and accomplish what many are only dreaming off.

Instead of seeing their current situations as a sentence, there are brave men and women who face each and every day inspired to do the things that they love and can make them happy.

One of these inspiring people with disabilities is 28-year-old Lucy Canunayon.

Seeing the World as a Better Place

Lucy Canunayon is only two feet tall because she is suffering from a rare disease known as the brittle bone disease. This disease affects the development of her arms and legs.

The pain she is feeling from this disease is unbearable. Since all her joints are swollen, even raising her hand is a difficult task to do.

Even with her current situation, Lucy does not miss going to the church. But for her to go out every Sunday, someone needs to lift her up from her wooden bed to a wheelchair that is hoisted at the back of a tricycle.

One Big Happy Family

Despite her situation, Lucy is in a happy marriage with her partner Vincent. With their love, they were able to conceive her daughter. But things did not happen like a fairytale for them. When Lucy’s mother learned that she is pregnant, she became angry and reminded her of her current condition.

After talking to her mother and letting her know that having a baby is a blessing for her for someone to take care of her as she gets older, Judith Canunayon, Lucy’s mother realized that her daughter had a point.

True to her wishes, Lucy’s daughter is helping her with her everyday needs. However, she does not wish to go to school without her in class. So Lucy does not have any choice but to teach her at home.

Although her daughter came out as normal, aside from Lucy, her brother Benjiemore also suffers the same illness. But despite their condition, they still manage to keep a happy and positive disposition.

Getting All the Help They Need

To help with their situation, the government of Sarangani offered her husband a job. Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho also surprised Lucy with a scholarship for her daughter Angel that includes a stipend to cover her transportation and food and covers up to her college education.

Lucy cannot help but cry, especially since it’s her dream to go to school, amid her situation. Her mother and husband also settled their rifts once and for all.
