We hear so many stories about domestic helpers getting abused in the Middle East that a lot of people have called for a ban in sending household workers there but despite these bad stories, there have also been a number of sweet, success stories that showed there are still kind employers even in the ‘terrifying’ Middle East.
One of these overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is a woman who goes by the handle Eyashi DG on Facebook.
She was featured on Kwentong OFW after she shared a photo with her employer in Lebanon, a country in the Middle East.
In her post, Eyashi DG revealed that she has been with her employer for 11 years. According to her, the woman in yellow in the photo is actually her employer.
She has been with the family in all those years, becoming a companion to her female boss even when her husband was still alive. Eyashi DG also narrated that her employer’s two daughters now have families of their own but she had never felt like an outsider in the family.
The family ensures she is well provided with the things she need: food, clothes, personal things, internet, etc.
While it is true that domestic helpers in the Middle East are given a day off on their contracts, a lot don’t actually experience having one. But for Eyashi DG, she’s the one who volunteers to work on her day off out of respect for her bosses – and she can go out anytime if she wanted to, anyway, so she doesn’t have a ‘formal’ day off.
The OFW ended her post with words of encouragement for other Filipinas to not feel afraid about working in the Middle East because not all employers are bad, saying there is no country on Earth whose citizens are all good.
Mostly mga problema sa work at employers po ang nababasa natin sa wall ng group…I just want to share my experience sa employer/s ko…😊
I’m here po sa Lebanon and this is my madam.11 yrs na ako sa kanya at sya lage nakakasama ko even nun nabubuhay pa ang asawa nya…Yong 2 daughters naman nya ay may sarili ng mga bahay and kung gano po kabait si madam, ganon din po ang kambal na anak nya…
Isa ang pamilya nya sa may mga mabubuting kalooban.I don’t have any problems sa kanya pwera na lng sa kung di maganda ang mood na I guess kahit tayo ay alam din natin yon.☺
I’m free here.Food,personal things,clothings,and net…
I don’t have a formal day-off kasi ako mismo ang nagsabing ayaw ko.Nakakalabas naman ako and I can go to a place na gusto ko if I want too…
Di po totoo na masasama ang Arab people at lalong di rin dapat katakutan ang magwork sa Mid-east…Kasi wala naman talagang bansa na lahat mabubuti ang naninirahan.Depende lng po talaga sa mapapasukan mo.
Do you agree with her?
