A lot of netizens have slammed the parents of a 12-year-old Filipina girl in Singapore who took her own life after barely passing Math exams at school. People believed that her parents were responsible for the young girl feeling ‘inadequate’ and eventually killing herself because she could no longer handle the pressure of trying to keep her grades up.
The girl was identified as Lisa, a Secondary One student (first year high school) at Cedar Girls Secondary School in Sembawang, northern Singapore. Teachers described her as an active student participating in the school’s track and field team. She was also polite and quiet; thus, her ***** was quite unexpected.
Lisa is the only child of Filipino parents who migrated to Singapore when the girl was still 4 years old. They have since gained status as Singapore citizens.
According to her mother, Lisa had always been an overachiever in school. The girl reportedly felt sad some weeks before because she barely passed her Math exams. Moreover, Lisa supposedly felt like an outcast at secondary school, finding it difficult to make friends in her new class.
“She told me a few days ago that she had received the results of her mathematics test and she had barely passed the examination so she was upset. But I never thought that she would commit suicide,” her mother told reporters.
While the ***** was being treated as suicide, police are also conducting investigations to determine her exact cause of *****.
Apparently, the cops knocked at the homes of the tenants in the family’s building at around 6PM on August 3 to determine the identity of the girl who committed suicide. Lisa’s father immediately went with them and confirmed that, sadly, it was his daughter.
“When her father discovered that it was actually his only daughter that had died, he broke down and cried. They had moved in when the girl was just four or five years old and they were a close-knit family. The girl had always been quiet and well-behaved so her suicide was a huge shock,” said the principal of Cedar Girls Secondary School.
But netizens continue to blame the child’s parents for her *****. A lot of them believe that Lisa wouldn’t be an ‘overachiever’ as her mother claimed if she was not pressured to get high grades and excel in school. Do you agree?
