“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them,” Walt Disney.
The inspiring story of Atty. Ramil Comendador, a former Commission on Elections (Comelec) janitor who successfully hurdled the 2016 Bar exams, is one proof that Walt Disney’s famous quote is true. Just months after becoming a lawyer, Comendador has now been promoted as an Election Officer of Comelec.

“We recognize his diligence and determination to reach his goals and we are pleased to see him accept the challenge. We look forward to working with him even more now as he takes on his new role as an Election Officer,” said Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista.
In the hopes of breaking the vicious cycle of poverty, Comendador gave up his life in the province to try his luck in Manila. A high school graduate, Comendador knew he had to earn a college degree to be able to turn his life around.
After earning his college degree, Comendador decided to continue studying. He put himself through 5 years of law school at the Universidad de Manila. But in order to finance his studies, he worked as a janitor at the Comelec from 2007 to 2010. Eventually, he became a Comelec legal researcher after passing an eligibility exam.
The 35-year-old husband and father of two also worked as an elections assistant, giving assistance to the Malabon elections officer in electoral activities.

Comendador’s success may be a combination of hard work, diligence, perseverance and luck, but hopefully his story will encourage people from all walks of life to pursue their dreams.
“Gusto ko lang pong sabihin sa kanila na kaya po nating putulin ang cycle ng kahirapan, magsumikap lang. Huwag isiping mahirap, sige lang at kumapit sa panginoon.”
