Mary Angelie Cardente Cabañez topped the Nursing Licensure Exam (NLE) when results were released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last June 16, 2017. This topnotcher was a graduate of West Visayas State University in Lapaz, Iloilo City.
Scoring 86.20% in the exam, she earned the number 1 spot among the 3,882 successful board passers who made it from the 11,176 examinees.

Joining her in NLE’s top 10 were seven passers coming from the same university which had given it pride as it has been years ago when the university garnered the highest place in the Nursing Licensure Exam.
During a radio interview with Angelie, she claimed that acquiring the first place was an answered prayer. She believed that God has rewarded the desires of her heart for being obedient to her parents.
She then shared her story and said that it was her father’s wish that she took Nursing instead of Biology which was the course that she first wanted. Valuing her father’s advice, she followed him and continued her perseverance in studies.

Angelie emphasized the importance of being obedient to parents and reminded the students to always follow their parent’s advice for they know what’s best for their children. She also said that she drew strength from her family as her inspiration. A Bible verse served as an spiritual motivator for Angelie which she quoted:
“Obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.” -Ephesians 6:1.
The whole family was rejoicing over Angelie’s success and also her friends who were no longer surprised because they knew she was a brilliant student and consistently in honor roll since her elementary years.

As of press time, Angelie was taking her time bonding with her family and relaxing after being stressed brought by the exam since review time.
Mary Angelie Cardente Cabañez was not only NLE’s No. 1 this year, she also graduated Cum Laude from her dear alma mater.
