Buko salad is one of the favorite desserts that Filipinos love to eat. It is a sweet mixture of fruit cocktail, buko (young coconut), milk, and other ingredients such as nata de coco and kaong.
But a different kind of ‘buko salad’ has recently gone viral – netizens dubbed this as ‘shabuko’, which literally means ‘shabu in buko’. Oooops. What kind of menu is that?
Well, the ‘shabuko’ term arose after alert jail officers managed to intercept around 1kg of shabu hidden inside coconuts delivered for the inmates’ buko salad. The shabu which had a street value of around Php11 million ($220k) was delivered last May 8, 2017 at the Dumaguete City District Jail – Male Dorm in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental in the Philippines.

At the time, the jail was having a mass.
According to the incident report, an unnamed minor who was accompanied by a still unidentified adult male went to the jail to deliver 30 coconuts as well as cans of fruit mix and milk for inmate Joram Catan who is in jail for drug-related charges.
Immediately after delivering the said items, the delivery men went out of the facility without even meeting up with Catan. But the alert jail officers on duty noticed that some of the coconuts appeared to be tampered with.
