Filipina, Listed among Business Insider’s “43 Most Powerful Female Engineers of 2017”

Though Engineering remains to be a male-dominated field, female engineers today are changing the archetype.

Moreover, a Filipina is among the front liners paving the way for female recognition in the area of engineering, as she was listed as one of Business Insider’s “43 Most Powerful Female Engineers of 2017”.

Anne Aaron is a Filipina engineer who works as the Director of Video Algorithms at Netflix. As such, she leads a team composed of software engineers and research scientists who develop a software which provides the best possible quality of video streaming to more than 86 million Netflix members worldwide.

The work of Aaron’s team makes it possible for the audience to watch episodes of their favorite Netflix series on their smartphones, tablets, and computers, clearly and fuss-free.

Ranking 32nd on the list, the Filipina engineer was first employed by Netflix in 2011 as a senior engineer. Through her efforts and skills, she became the top brass of her department.

As a student, Aaron had shown her passion and commitment to do the things she loved when she graduated as Valedictorian and Magna Cum Laude from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1998, and in Computer Engineering in 1999. She took her Master’s and Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Before joining Netflix, Aaron worked as a Senior Software Engineer for Video Codecs in Cisco Systems.
