While older people often discourage students from getting into relationships as that could distract them from their goals and even lead to unplanned pregnancies at times, there have been a lot of student sweethearts who proved that you can still mix love with studying – and get awesome results!
Take for example the couple who met and fell in love while studying at Southwestern University Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine in Cebu City.
Instead of letting their love affect their studies, Lui Alvarez and Maude Tabigue used each other as inspiration and ‘study buddies’ so they could pass the course. Aside from learning together in medical school, the two also studied together for the Physician Licensure Exams.

All their hard work paid off because they were both among the 813 passers out of 1,317 examinees – and one of them even snagged a spot in the Top 10!
Tabigue ranks as Top #4 with a rating of 87%, an achievement made all the more sweeter by the fact that not only did her boyfriend of two years also pass the exams, she has also become the first of her clan to become a doctor.
What’s their secret to success in love and in their studies?
“It’s possible, really. You just have to help each other, avoid unnecessary conflict and be each other’s study buddy,” Tabigue shared.
Before they both start working in a hospital in Cebu City, Tabigue plans to take a vacation to her hometown in Carmen, Bohol.
Congratulations new doctors, Lui Alvarez and Maude Tabigue! We wish you both more success!
