While the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) maintains that the “Big One” Earthquake could happen anytime, the agency has also made an announcement to debunk the fake text messages circulating among netizens about the supposed date the devastating earthquake will happen.

According to these fake text messages, the Big One will happen sometime between February 24 and March 08, 2017 – and this has led to panic among those who believe that this might be true, especially because the message claims that the news source was supposed to come from PHIVOLCS!

In reality, there remains a possibility that the Big One could happen anytime between those dates, the fact also remains that there is still no reliable technology anywhere in the world today (even in the most advanced countries!) which could predict for certain when and where an earthquake will occur!
Spreading a word of caution to help people prepare for any doomsday event is alright but if it was done with malicious intent and just to spread mass panic, then that is something else! Thus, PHIVOLCS warns netizens against spreading said text messages or post such on their Facebook timelines.
Instead, the agency encourages everyone to repost their warning to ensure that people will not be misinformed by the false warnings.
So, if you had received the text message and spread it to your friends, share this correct one now.
