The ‘crying father’ who was surprised by his children with a Christmas gift – a white Chevrolet SUV – has admitted that the Trailblazer was his dream car; one which he wanted to own but decided instead to use the money for the kids’ education.

The viral video of Pastor Nilo dela Cruz’s emotional reaction has touched the heart of many netizens, especially after watching him break into tears over his kids’ surprise. The 61-year-old pastor, who had to travel from Bulacan to Quezon City, immediately rushed to meet his sons, expecting to see an altercation, but instead got the surprise of his life.

He loves cars, but can’t afford one

The eight siblings had to save for over a year to buy their dad his dream car. One of the sons work as a supermarket manager, one runs a pharmaceutical business, while another is a partner at private equity firm.

The two daughters own a school for children with special needs, while the three younger boys are still in school and universities.

“Lagi niya sinasabi sa amin na dream car niya ‘yung Chevrolet Trailblazer. Mahilig siya sa car, madami siyang alam sa car, pero wala siyang sariling car,” one of the sons, Brad, told ABS-CBN News.
