Senator Leila De Lima finally breaks her silence over accusations that she had a romantic relationship with her former driver and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan, a married man. After months of keeping mum over the issue, she finally admitted that she truly had a relationship with Dayan!
In an exclusive interview with Winnie Monsod on “Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie”, the senator candidly admitted to the veteran journalist that, indeed, she and Dayan had a relationship which lasted ‘a few years’.

Asked why it happened, De Lima merely said it was due to “frailties of a woman”. She elaborated that the two of them became so close that she just fell in love with her former driver but she had broken up with him before she ran for senator.
According to a report on GMA News’ 24 Oras, De Lima also admitted that the relationship came to a point when she helped Dayan financially but she denied that it went as far as her building a house for her lover.
After De Lima’s admission, netizens could not help but wonder whether the allegations over her involvement in the drug trade, especially at the New Bilibid Prison while she was still Justice Secretary, were also true.
After all, it was the president who accused her of having an affair with her driver – and this later turned out to be true and she admitted it herself.
Still, De Lima had never denied her relationship with Dayan but had only admitted it now. In contrast, she had always denied her involvement in the drug trade. In the interview with Monsod, De Lima said she was 100% that she had not received money from the drug trade and had never allowed someone to be her bagman but Dayan collecting money in her name is “within the realm of possibilities”…
