“Many people flock to Manila because of the salary rate, in turn, Metro Manila suffers from overpopulation,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III explained. For this reason, President Rodrigo Duterte wants Metro Manila and provincial workers to have the same wage.
This is part of the president’s move to spread development and the country’s wealth the provinces, instead of merely focusing on Metro Manila as has been the practice for decades.
By ensuring that the minimum wages will be the same across the country, people from the provinces will no longer have to head off to the ‘big city’ to find a job there. Instead, they will be working in their own provinces.

Considering that the cost of living in Metro Manila is significantly higher than those in the provinces, should this proposal become law, there just might be a reverse in the trend – and people will go back to the provinces to find jobs instead of heading off to the big city to make their dreams come true!
When that happens, not only will there be more development in the countryside as Duterte wanted, this would also solve the perennial problem of congestion in Metro Manila! Of course, this would mean more jobs have to be created in the provinces but with Duterte’s plan to promote development and construction of various infrastructures outside Metro Manila, this plan just might work beautifully…
So, are you in favor of workers enjoying the same minimum wage in Metro Manila and in the provinces?
yes, there is no provincial rate on spending on malls and establishments from Manila that have branched out in the province, you spend the same amount of what you spend in Manila on these businesses. So it is unfair to spend the same amount and earn lower simply because we work and live in the province.
the cost of living in province and manila is the same. It happens that we need to rent a room to stay. that is only the difference. plus the temptation of things in manila to spend a lot. but the basic expenses such as food, transpo, electricity and water are all at the same cost. this proposal must be done. maybe not as early as we wanted it to be, but on the time frame that all the things are provided for it to be done.
