Are you looking for a job? A career as teacher just might be the one you are looking for! The Department of Education (DepEd) is in need of more than 53,000 teachers next year – and they are even willing to hire fresh graduates of Science and Technology courses even if they do not have education units and haven’t passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET)!
DepEd’s proposed P567.56-billion budget for 2017 allocates P15.5 billion to hire 53,831 teachers as well as “P4.5 billion to purchase more than 8,300 Science and Math equipment packages”, reports Inquirer.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the department is looking for a “huge army” of Science and Math teachers – and if you are qualified as Special Science Teacher, you stand to receive a good salary which starts at salary grade level 13 or around Php21,436 as mandated by Republic Act No. 10612 or the Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013.
Under this program, the DepEd can hire graduates of Science and Technology – and the department will assist them so they can undergo a teacher training program to qualify for LET under the junior level science scholarships of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute.
Of the 502 professionals who qualified for the scholarship as of June 21, 472 scholars have already availed of the grant.
So, if you are looking for a job and believe you’re qualified for special scholarship, go to the neared DepEd office for more information on the program and how you can apply.
