A Mindanaoan, President Rodrigo Duterte had promised his kababayans that he would make the Mindanao Railway System as one of his priority projects if elected as president – and now that he had been elected into office, Duterte is making good on that promise sometime soon.
In fact, if things go smoothly as planned, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia believes that the project can be started in as early as 2017!

Spanning the length of Mindanao and going around the entire island, the railway system will connect major cities like Duterte’s hometome Davao City, Zamboanga, Butuan, Surigao, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and General Santos.
This announcement was revealed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) chief in a press briefing in Davao City.
The project will be 2,000 kilometers long – that means that even if it is started in 2017 as promised, this might not be completed before Duterte’s term ends. Still, the commencement of this project is surely something that Mindanaoans are looking forward to, especially because most infrastructure projects have been focused outside Mindanao in the past years.
so sad.. not even one station is located in surigao del sur 🙁
