After Duterte Directive, “One-Stop Service Center” Opens for OFWs with All 14 Government Agencies They Needed for Processing Documents

In the past, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) need a lot of time to process their documents because they have to go to their respective agencies but also have to process a lot of stuff from government agencies.

More often than not, they spend more than a couple of days to process these documents because travel time to and from these different agencies already take up so much of the time – not to mention the long waiting time needed to get those documents ready.

President Rodrigo Duterte had previously promised to help ease the burden OFWs face when processing their documents – and within 50 days after he started his term, the president has already fulfilled his promise!

After the president issued a directive mandating relevant government agencies to “move their computers” to the one-stop shop that will be opened, OFWs were pleasantly surprised when they could already get all their documents from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in Ortigas.

Moreover, because the president had also directed all government agencies to fast-track the release of all documents, things have surely gone smoother and faster.

Open from 8 AM to 5 PM, the one-stop shop (dubbed as the OSSCO) in POEA-Ortigas can accommodate as many as 3,000 OFWs per day.

Government agencies in OSSCO include the following:

  • Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration
  • Department of Foreign Affairs
  • National Bureau of Investigation
  • Bureau of Immigration
  • Social Security System
  • Pag-IBIG fund
  • PhilHealth
  • Commission on Higher Education
  • Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority (TESDA)
  • Professional Regulation Commission
  • Maritime Industry Authority

A lot of netizens, especially OFWs, are happy with this new development. Hopefully, this will be the standard among government agencies and, soon, everyone in the country can experience faster and more efficient government services and similar one-stop shops for various needs.
