Supermarket in the Philippines Earns Praise for Hiring Workers with Autism

People with autism often find it difficult to fit in and feel that they belong in society – and finding jobs can be difficult because of discrimination. But this might soon come to an end, thanks to the wonderful people from the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) who are battling to help those with autism feel more confident and earn their place in the community.

In partnership with SM Markets, SM Cares, Independent Living Learning Centre (ILLC Philippines), UP College of Education and UP-CAMP, the ASP was able to help persons with autism find a job, thanks to the ASP Career Placement Initiative!

One supermarket, Savemore in Light Mall in Mandaluyong City, has gone viral for going beyond the norm and actually employing three workers with autism. ASP shares photos of Matt, Carl, and Karlo as they patiently and diligently worked to restock the shelves and arrange the items there.

This surely is a welcome progress! It is our hope (and surely the ASP’s, too) that discrimination against people with disabilities and special needs will stop – and that they can find jobs and finally feel that they truly belong in this world…

Kudos Savemore!
