Filipinos all over the world are known for our creativity and ingenuity. It is evident from the different talents that people showcase on social media every day. Take this story of Julius Ceasar Apellado for example.
Julius recently went viral on Facebook due to his resourcefulness and creativity not only in creating different drawings and paintings but also with his magnificent artwork featuring the Philippine flag.
One of a Kind
You might be thinking: but there are many people creating different artworks using our flag, right? There is something unique about his work of art. Instead of using paint, pastels or charcoal, he used thousands of matchsticks to visualize the giant flag.
Julius revealed that he used 19,680 matchsticks to complete this one of a kind masterpiece. According to him, he also painstakingly colored each piece to match the color of the Philippine flag and glued every stick into place to fulfill the distinct features of the flag.
Using Only Simple Materials
The artist also shared during his interview with GMA-7 that he has been creating different artworks out of simple, cheap, and everyday materials. He feels happy every time he can see the result.
Mahirap gawin pero maganda ang kakalabasan kahit ordinary art lang.
Due to the number of appreciation and commendations he received after showcasing his masterpiece, Julius said that he wants to exhibit his artwork to allow the public to appreciate his works firsthand.
Gusto ko sana ipakita sa exhibit at pagkatapos ay i-display lang sa bahay ko.
Many netizens also showed their concern that the art might be a fire hazard. The artist further explained that he will put it on a frame.
Julius only spent P1,600 for the materials he used to create the intricate Philippine flag. After working on his project, he is now thinking about what he needs to do with the 41 empty boxes of matchsticks he used. Maybe another art project?
