Umagang Kay Ganda is known to give mornings a positive outlook, especially for those who wake up early and prepare for work. A lot of people tune in to this morning show because of their news and different segments that are enjoyable and at the same time, educational.
Honest Remark Turned Bad Impression
However, in the recent February 19 episode of the morning show, while reporting about the 19-year-old girl who was gang-raped after meeting up with someone she had been chatting online, the host, Anthony Taberna, commented about how it was the victim’s fault for putting herself in a position resulting to the situation. This comment left a bad impression on netizens.
Meanwhile, his co-host, Jeff Canoy, defended the victim.
However, Taberna did not agree with Canoy’s statement.
Enranged a Lot of Netizens
The remarks made by Taberna did not go unnoticed. A lot of netizens picked on his comments and called for an apology from the Umagang Kay Ganda host. Most of them also demanded for his resignation.
'Boys being boys' is not an excuse to rape. Anthony Taberna's comments that victim blame rape victims are one of the reasons why rape culture is prevalent, now more than ever. His sexist remarks/comments on his female co-anchors are also wrong. As a viewer, he turns me off.

If they insist on retaining Taberna perhaps they should rename the show to, "Balahura Tuwing Umaga with Anthony Taberna." Yun Lang yun.

We deserve better than statements that normalize the boys-will-be-boys mindset. Rape doesn't happen because victims put themselves in vulnerable situations, rape happens because rapists rape. pic.twitter.com/sMU03j7Dbl
