An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) currently trapped in Kuwait after he was diagnosed with leukemia is seeking help so his mother and two kids can visit him before he dies.
What’s really sad is that Jonas Sol Bersabal, who worked as teaboy, has not seen his family for 7 years.
According to his current girlfriend Danjean Lunes, a nurse also working in Kuwait, Bersabal was barred from leaving the country because of a pending case over unpaid debt amounting to KWD2,000 (Php 345,000) plus interests. But it was not actually him who owed the money.
Lunes revealed that Bersabal’s former girlfriend was the one who took the loan, with him as guarantor. Sadly, the woman did not pay up and it was him who was barred from leaving the country until the debt was paid.
Bersabal tried his best to pay off the debt while also sending money to his mother and two children. But the breadwinner faced more challenges when he was diagnosed with leukemia.
While his medical bills were covered by insurance, Lunes claimed that Bersabal’s company could help them get a visa for his mother and kids. Bersabal is now comatose but had expressed his wish to be with his family before he dies.
Sadly, despite asking help from the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, Lunes was told that there is no guarantee the family will be able to secure the necessary documents to visit their dying breadwinner.
We hope that someone could help the family. If they could not be sent to Kuwait, it would at least be helpful if someone could provide them with financial assistance and some livelihood to get them going now that Bersabal is unable to provide for their needs.
