Star Magic member Juan Miguel de Guzman, popularly known by his screen name JM de Guzman, is back to work with ABS-CBN, his Kapamilya family. This was confirmed on Tuesday by Star Magic executive, Thess Gubi in ABS-CBN News.
After his break from showbiz, he is set to do a movie with the producers of “Heneral Luna” as his comeback project.
Apparently, in late 2013, JM underwent rehabilitation for 17 months due to drug abuse. Before that, he was in a relationship with Kapamilya actress Jessy Mendiola but they broke up citing de Guzman’s drug abuse as the main reason. It was also the reason for the sudden cancellation of JM’s show, “Angelito”.
Other projects which were lined-up for JM were also canceled due to the actor’s erratic behavior on the set. One of those was his supposed portrayal of Pedro Calungsod as an entry to the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival and “Batang Martir” where he was replaced by Rocco Nacino. He then claimed that he was struggling with anxiety attacks, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Last month, JM shared on Instagram a picture of his sobriety certificate from the Self Enhancement for Life Foundation which indicates that he had been living a substance-free lifestyle for a year.
JM started his career as a print and TV model. He then became a cast of “Ang TV 2” with Shaina Magdayao and Denise Laurel as his batchmates. Aside from being an actor and a model, JM is also a martial artist and a singer. He is the cousin of singer Klarisse de Guzman, the first runner-up of “The Voice Philippines” Season 1.
