Beauty and Brawn: Maggie Wilson, First Pinay to Win Antarctic Ice Marathon

At 28, former beauty queen, Maggie Wilson-Consunji, is the first ever Pinay to win the Antarctic Ice Marathon in Antarctica this December 2017.

The Binibining Pilipinas World 2007 Queen recently made headlines for finishing the 42.2 km, below-zero temperature race with her husband, Victor Consunji.

It was a constant battle with my mind and body. I survived without getting frostbite and hypothermia in one of the most remote locations in the world,” she said in an Instagram post. “Sometimes you’d find yourself running alone with just the snow and the mountains in the background, with nothing but the sound of your shoes crunching the snow with every stride.

She added, however, that though she “may not be considered a ‘full’ Filipino at times,’ she feels proud and honored to “stand at the finish [line] holding the Philippine flag as the first Filipina to complete a marathon in Antarctica.”

However, Maggie isn’t a stranger to defeating new and obscure challenges. Last December, she and Parul Shah (best friend and fellow beauty queen) won the Amazing Race Asia Season 5, and won a heaping $100,000.

Maggie added, “It’s not your typical marathon where hordes of people crowd the race track to cheer you on. In Antarctica, you are your own cheerleader most of the time.”

Kudos to you, Maggie! Despite any challenges or obstacles that you’ve faced, you’ve shown the determining endeavor of a true Filipino!
