30th Aliw Awards Recognizes Aicelle Santos as Best Actress in a Featured Role for “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag”

“Sa Panginoon, salamat po sa talento.”

Kapuso actress and singer Aicelle Santos felt grateful for having been blessed with a talent for singing which had been recognized in the 30th Aliw Awards on December 19, 2017. Aicelle had been awarded as Best Actress for her exemplary performance in her featured role in the musical stage play “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag”.

Aicelle played the role of “Perla“, the sister of “Atong” portrayed by Noel Rayos who works as a construction worker in the story. Her performance left a mark on the audience as she belted out the high notes with so much power, emotions and intensity. Indeed, she was deserving of her title as Best Actress.

In GMA News on Wednesday, Aicelle thanked Aliw Awards for recognizing her God-given talent in her performance. She shared the award with her co-stars and also to those people who had been victims of injustice until the present time. Above all, Aicelle thanked God for giving her a ‘beautiful’ voice.

Among other awardees, Jessa Zaragosa won in the Best Performance in a Concert (Female) category and Director Joel Lamangan and Pinky Amador as Hall of Famers.

On the other hand, Lifetime Achievement Award had been given to Geleen Eugenio, Claire dela Fuente, and Celeste Legaspi.

“Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” is a musical stage play version of the award-winning novel by Edgardo Reyes whose story was set in the 1970s.   It was staged at KIA Theater in Cubao, Quezon City starting September 30 until October 6, 2017.

The play featured music by Von de Guzman with choreography by Douglas Nierras and production design by Juan Flavier Pablo.
